A Different Way: Jesus and the Call Beyond Christian Nationalism

The Grand Canyon Growing in Faith Program will host a symposium titled “A Different Way: Jesus and the Call Beyond Christian Nationalism—Hope, Courage and Community for Such a Time as This.”

The event will explore Christian responses to nationalism through the lens of faith, discipleship, justice, and love of neighbor. 

The symposium will feature a keynote address by Bishop Shelley Bryan Wee, Bishop of the Northwest Washington Synod of the Evangelical Church in America (ELCA). Drawing on the themes of hope, courage, and Christian community, participants will be invited to consider how the teachings of Jesus call us beyond division and toward faithful engagement with our neighbors and society. 

The day will include:

• A Bible study focused on the Christian call to faithfulness, justice, and love of neighbor.

• An address by Bishop Shelley Bryan Wee, Bishop of the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA.

• Opportunities for learning, reflection, and discussion around the topic of Christian Nationalism and its impact on the church and society.

• Snacks and lunch provided for all in-person attendees.

The Reverend Shelley M. Bryan Wee has served as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America since 1993. She has served as Bishop of the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA since August 2019.
